Diverting Death

Death followed me to work today
In a mirror he trapped my eye
Swift as a whip I glanced away
Was it indeed my time to die?
Considered diversions to try
proceeded to tell death a joke
His laugh was so hearty he cried
releasing his death-gripping yoke

My first Huitain written for the challenge at dVerse</a>. I found the form very challenging so I decided to have a little fun with it. The line "death followed me to work today," has been haunting me for weeks, so I'm hoping by using it I will put it to rest. One can hope.
