Pliabilities

A Brighter Light

Stressing between the words, life unfurls like
a slipshod hurricane when you're not paying attention
circumstances pass over entrenched defenses
without you noticing the rift in your soul
acclimated to the numbing dream
attenuated to the stitches between the seams
you think you've got it all sewn up, but
the unexamined life tugs the rug
like a bad-natured trickster
hurtling contentment into the abyss of frustration
re-threading the needle and sewing
a new pattern to play
and a brighter light to see by
